Making Time for What Counts

I home-school my kids. For 8 years now I have taught all four of them. This year my tenth grader will be going back to school. The other kids will be in the twelth grade, ninth grade and sixth grade. While I’m doing this I am also going to be running my business, keeping this blog up, taking care of my house, and everything else that has to be done. If it sounds like a lot, well, it is! But my favorite verses in the bible these days are 1 John 5:5 says “Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” The other one is Philippians 4:13 which says “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” And it is true! There is no way that on my own I could do any of this, much less all of it! But I can do it with Jesus helping me. However there is a caveat, and it is a lesson that I’ve learned from Dr. Don Colbert’s wife, Mrs. Mary Colbert, as well as Reggie, and it is this: if I can do it, God won’t. So God expects us to do what we can!

So what can I do? I can schedule my days to allow for everything that needs to be done. I can ask for help from friends. I can pray with the expectation of receiving whatever I ask for from Jesus. This applies to any of us!

A strategy I learned a number of years ago is to make a list of EVERYTHING that needs to be done. Get specific. Once you do this put it in a routine. Another suggestion is to assign each person a color and use that color in all areas. I know many who carry this idea to every area. Including towels. It eliminates a lot of arguements! Such as “where is my towel?” Or what am I supposed to do today? Just go look at the schedule. This can even be done for children who don’t yet read. Just simply substitute a picture for the words. Praying God blesses all you put your hands to in Jesus Name.
