Confidence in Me!

In the movie “The Sound of Music” there is a song called “I Have Confidence in Me!” This song has so much truth in it. Here are the lyrics to it.

What will this day be like?
I wonder
What will my future be?
I wonder
It could be so exciting
To be out in the world
To be free
My heart should be wildly rejoicing
Oh whats the matter with me?

I’ve always longed for adventure
To do the things I’ve never dared
Now here i’m facing adventure
Then why am I so scared?

Captain with seven children
Whats so fearsome about that?

Oh I must stop all these doubts
All these worries
If I don’t i just know i’ll turn back
I must dream of the things I am seeking
I am seeking the courage I lack

The courage to serve them with reliance
Face my mistakes without defiance
Show them I’m worthy
And while I show them
I’ll show me! So!

Let them bring on all their problems
I’ll do better than my best
I have confidence
They’ll put me to the test
But I’ll make them see
I have confidence in me

Somehow I will impress them
I will be firm but kind
And all those children
Heaven bless them
They will look up to me
And mind me

With each step I am more certain
Everything will turn out fine
I have confidence the world can all be mine
They’ll have to agree I have confidence in me

I have confidence in sunshine
I have confidence in rain
I have confidence that spring will come again
Besides what you see I have confidence in me!

Strength doesn’t lie in numbers
Strength doesn’t lie in wealth
Strength lies in nights of peaceful slumber
When you wake up
Wake up! It’s healthy!

All I trust
I give my heart to
All I trust becomes my own
I have confidence
In confidence alone

Oh help

I have confidence in confidence alone!
Besides Which you see I have confidence
In me!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maria has no idea what she is getting into in this movie. But what we do know is that she will be a nanny for 7 children. She realizes that she needs confidence to do what she has be hired to do. So, here is the question: Do you have confidence?  What dreams do you have that you are afraid to go after? Do you long for adventure? What are you dreaming of? Or if you have quit dreaming, what did you dream of? For me, I have dreamed of speaking on stage for many years. And of being able to help people make their dreams come true. And of just being a blessing to people. I’m going after those dreams! Do I have naysayers? Yes! But are they stopping me? NO! And in fact they are pushing me harder than my supporters. Because I want to prove them wrong! And I am! I have confidence! Do you? Until next time…

images Go Confidently

Norman Vincent Peale said  “Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy. ” This is the same writer who wrote the famous book “The Power of Positive Thinking.” So many people lack the confidence to go after what they want. I know that was the case for me! But by working on building my confidence by doing things that I thought I couldn’t do, I am finding that I can do things that I never thought I could! If you step out in faith and try something new, what is the worst thing that could happen? You fail? Honestly, failure just means you need to try a different way to get something done. You can be successful! Thomas Edison said it so perfectly: “I have not failed, I have just found 10,000 ways that didn’t work.” Maybe what you tried didn’t work the first time. Don’t quit! Just try a new way to get what you want! The old adage is true, if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Success is failure turned inside out! You can have success. And by not quitting you will boost your confidence. Les Brown says on every one of his messages: “You have greatness within you!” And you really do!!!! Until next time…

The Importance of Being Real

For the past couple of weeks I’ve been writing on how important words can be. And words are important. But what about the words you speak to yourself? Are they any less important? I think they are more important than any words that can be spoken to you. Luke chapter 6 verse 45 says “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.” What do you believe about yourself? Are you speaking life over yourself? Or death? If you are speaking death, please, begin to find some good things in yourself. Look for things that you are good at. If you need to, ask for help. There is nothing wrong with it! Words of life and words of death, we speak them over ourselves so often! But we need to focus on speaking words of life over ourselves. Being real to yourself is so incredibly important! We talk to ourselves all the time. Whether or not it is aloud. How is your life going? Do you do what you want in life? Where do you see yourself in ten years? Do you see yourself as being successful? Or do you see yourself as someone who is struggling? If you want to be successful in 10 years you have to see yourself as being successful now! There is a movie I’ve seen a couple of times now. It is called “The Secret.” It is fantastic! Here is the gist of the movie: if you see yourself as someone who is successful you will attract people who are successful! Now success can take different forms for different people. For one person success may be wealthy and having lots of “toys.” For someone else, it may where you have a life where you are just comfortable. For me, I will be successful when I can bless other people in a huge way. What does success look like to you? The important part of being real, is you can see yourself as you want to be. I believe in you. Do you believe in yourself?

Confidence in Myself through Christ

Hebrews 10:35-36 says “Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.” There is a lot of debate in the Christian community about confidence. But Hebrews says very clearly not to throw away our confidence! So why the debate? I think it is because some have confused confidence with being arrogant. If our identity is in Christ, as it should be, then we will be humble, not arrogant. I think of it this way, Christ was an incredible leader. He was humble. But he also walked in confidence. If we look closely at this passage it says not to throw away our confidence, which has a great reward! It goes on to say that we need this for endurance. Or in other words, we need to know in ourselves that we will be successful! If we have the confidence that we will be successful then we will be. I have said before that Napoleon Hill said “What the mind can conceive and believe it will achieve.” If we look at anyone who is successful in any capacity, we will see that they saw in their mind that they were successful way before the world saw it. Do you see yourself as successful? Do you look in the mirror and see a winner? If you don’t then no one else will either. You have to see yourself as being successful. You have to believe it. Growing up I was told many times that God didn’t create no junk! And I know that is true. When God created man in the Garden of Eden, then he said for the first time it was VERY good (Genesis 1:31). So what can we do to have confidence? This morning I watched a video on GodTV via Roku. I watched an episode of “The Leon Show” This video had a new to me writer on it. Her name is Renee Swope. She has written a book called “A Confident Heart” which I plan on getting tomorrow and reading right away. She gave two excellent suggestions. One is to write a letter to myself. In this letter, I have to congratulate myself on reaching a goal or more than one goal. I have 3 main goals I’m going to put in it. One is reaching Crown Diamond in Max International. A second goal is becoming a black belt in Martial Arts. A third one is speaking at a TEDx event. These are some major goals for me. I do have smaller goals, but those goals are set up to reach the big goals. A second idea she gave is to write out what I’m good at. I can tell you now some things I’m good at. One, I’m good at talking to people in public confidently. Two, I’m good at learning new things and putting those lessons to work. Third, I’m good at writing. There are other things I’m good at. But those are three things just off the top of my head. What are you good at? Write it out. And then thank God for showing them to you. Being confident doesn’t mean you are arrogant. What is the difference? In confidence, you know within yourself that you can do what God has called you to do. But if you are arrogant, you well, rub it in everyone’s face. I am better than you. We all have come across people who are this way. And that is not the person I’m talking about being. I’m talking about the person who knows that he is good at something. If you know you are good at something, such as a doctor who knows what he is doing. it will be obvious to everyone he meets. He won’t have to say “look at me, I’m better than you.” Until next time…
